Derek proudly served as a volunteer fireman from 1998 to 2000 with the Fort Morgan Volunteer Fire Department in Alabama. Growing up just a hour away from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, he is a life-long racing enthusiast and participant. You can catch him announcing at several tracks along the Gulf Coast from Mobile International Speedway to Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, FL. He is partners in HurriKane Motorsports, a three car team expanding to five cars in 2012 with Derek taking the wheel of an open wheel modified. Derek has also worked in the media for several years. He currently is a traffic reporter on WXRG CBS 5 in Mobile, AL and on over nineteen radio stations
with Skywatch Traffic. When he's not at the
track, he's preparing for his weekly radio
show, Full Throttle Racing with Kane.
The show covers regional and national
racing news. The show features weekly
NASCAR on-the-road updates from Dustin
Long, a motorsports columnist with
Landmark Newspapers and SI.com.
Derek also has a musical ministry and
volunteers with the American Cancer
Society, Team Focus and many other
organizations. “I Look forward to
